I provide the following services anywhere in Southern Africa. My contact information is at the bottom of the page.
My Mission: 'To Enhance the thinking of individuals and organisations so that their sustainability may be improved' That is what Uncommon Sense is about. If
you prefer the common-or-garden, cradles-of-convention approach
to strategy or human resource development, you are probably
lost, and need to find a more run-of-the-mill site.
I do
not believe that the cutting edge can be found on the
well-travelled path; I think cradles (of convention) are for babies, and that,
since the majority of organisations and people are not
successful, 'best practices' are not only a misnomer, but a
follower's attempt to look like a leader.. In
addition, I believe that 'accreditation' is almost a guarantee
of mediocrity - standard-setting can only ever set a minimum, it
can never establish and ensure superior quality. In addition,
accreditation has a 'groupthink' quality to it - and since
progress has always depended on the progressive minority rather
than the ignorant majority, it is difficult to see why
'accredited' training is in such demand. My
approaches, both in strategy and training, emphasize the right
any individual has to think for themselves, and the need they
have to demand that right in any circumstances. The quality of
an individual's life is determined by the quality of their
thinking, and the same applies to an organisation. And if
everyone is thinking alike, then nobody is thinking - it is
diversity that brings innovation, and conflict that enhances
interaction - there is no guarantee that consensus leads to
quality. Instead
of getting their students to comply, trainers should be teaching
them to rebel, to insist on questioning the 'known', to make up
their own minds rather than follow blindly the assertions of
authority figures. Authority has no place in education - it
should be an environment of stimulation, not control. The
set of principles that govern the uncommon Sense 'way' have
resulted, over the years, in students with independent minds,
empowered to make use of every opportunity available to enhance
both their own lives and the lives of others. These principles
are embodied in the
Give Me your New Young People who have Potential, for Two Days a Month for One Year... ... and I Will Change them and your Organisation for the Better!Of course, you may not have the resources, or you may have commitments elsewhere. I am willing to offer modules independently, but prefer that delegates do the 'full monty' because very little can be achieved in 'one-off ' interventions. Development takes time, and ad hoc approaches are invariably less effective than a sustained, focused approach. Contact me at justd@justd.ws if you wish me to create a tailored package for you or even to develop a specific module for you.Derek du Toit © Uncommon Sense Communication - Enabling Independent Thought |
